Police rescue kidnapping victim, seize three unlicensed firearms

Police rescued a Finsbury kidnapping victim and arrested two suspects after stopping a suspicious vehicle during an operation in Bekkersdal.

A kidnapping victim was rescued and two suspects arrested on December 30 after police intercepted a suspicious vehicle during an operation.

National police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said members of the Johannesburg Public Order Policing unit were monitoring funeral proceedings in the area when a Ford Figo drew their attention.

Police officers stopped the vehicle, after which two occupants attempted to flee on foot but were quickly apprehended.

“During the search, police recovered three unlicensed firearms, one of which had its serial number filed off,” Nevhuhulwi said.

She confirmed that a man found inside the vehicle informed police he had been kidnapped in Finsbury, where a kidnapping case had already been opened.

The two suspects were arrested and charged with kidnapping, as well as possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. They are expected to appear in court soon,” Nevhuhulwi added.
