Cele to deploy an additional 10 000 cops this festive season

An additional 10 000 police officers will be deployed in all nine provinces in South Africa, Police Minister Bheki Cele announced.

Police Minister Bheki Cele is intensifying the fight against crime and will be deploying 10 000 additional police officers in different parts of the country this festive season.

He mentioned this at a press briefing in Pretoria recently saying that the officers will be deployed in all nine provinces.

“With just 14 days to go until Christmas Day, the police ministry and management would like to outright assure the nation that all hands are on deck to protect citizens and their property. The holiday season is a time when criminals sharpen and refine their operations, taking advantage of the festive mood. We too as the country’s law enforcement have to continue to upscale our resources in the fight against crime for the holidays and beyond.

“In the coming days, the bite of the South African Police Service will be stronger as we welcome 10 000 new officers that are additional,” said Cele.

He added that their deployment will be prioritised in high crime areas and hotspots, especially in places of entertainment and leisure this holiday season.
