The case involving a minor who was allegedly sexually abused by a man in his 60s has been postponed to June 20.

A man in his 60s who is accused of sexually abusing an eight-year-old girl made another appearance in the Randfontein Magistrate’s Court on May 7.

The accused, who was granted bail in March, was called to stand in the dock at around 09:00. He wore black jeans and a white jacket. The courtroom interpreter asked him what language he preferred to proceed with. The accused struggled to understand the question due to his hearing problem which was confirmed at his previous appearance.

The prosecutor asked that the hearing be postponed to obtain an outstanding document. The magistrate confirmed that the case would be postponed to June 20. The accused was warned to attend the next hearing.

In a previous interview with the victim’s mother outside of court, she stated that the fear in her daughter’s eyes was unforgettable.

“I realised that as a mother, I have to be calm and reassure her. She is a motivating example that you do not have to be quiet,” the mother concluded.
