Elderly man accused of sexual abuse of girl (8)

Victim's mother says her little girl stands as a motivating example that you do not have to be quiet.

A man in his 60s who is accused of sexually abusing an eight-year-old girl appeared in the Randfontein Magistrate’s Court on February 28.

The Randfontein Herald attended proceedings where the accused, wearing a T-shirt and jeans, was called to stand in the dock. This comes after the minor’s family opened a case in December.

The minor’s legal representatives asked for permission to postpone the hearing to March 19. The magistrate asked for any objections, of which there were none.

The accused’s legal representative explained the matter to the accused in Afrikaans saying that the state wanted to communicate with the complainant (young victim’s mother) before continuing with the case.

The Herald also met with the family following the court appearance where they stated they simply want justice to be served.

The victim’s mother also said outside of court, “The absolute fear she has in her eyes is unforgettable. I realised that as a mother I have to be calm and I have to reassure her. She stands as a motivating example that you do not have to be quiet.”
