West Rand Police strike again – 16 illegal miners caught
Law enforcement on the West Rand succeeded in bringing more illegal miners to book following a bust in Luipaardsvlei.
Members of the West Rand Police, together with Gauteng Traffic Wardens, the police’s Infrastructure Task Team and various private security companies, conducted a joint district illegal mining operation, successfully bringing illegal miners to book.

According to Gauteng provincial spokesperson Dimakatso Sello, the police received a tip-off of illegal mining activity happening in Luipaardsvlei, which led to the police following up.
“During the operation, 16 suspects were arrested for illegal mining activities and illegal mining equipment was confiscated. The suspects appeared in the Krugersdorp Magistrate’s Court.”
