Victim speaks after terrifying attempted hijacking
After a terrifying hijacking attempt, the victim managed to escape unscathed. The suspects fled with her Suzuki Vitara, but the vehicle was later recovered by authorities.
On June 10, the Randfontein Herald reported on an armed robbery that occurred the previous day at Randfontein Station Mall. According to police, the suspects attempted to hijack a woman’s Suzuki Vitara after the shooting. Fortunately, she managed to escape unharmed. Although the suspects fled with the vehicle, it was later recovered.

The victim, who prefers to stay anonymous for safety reasons, shared what happened on June 9.
“It was an ordinary day for us. I dropped my children off at school. I was waiting for the school to come out when a man with an AK-47 tried to grab the car keys,” she said.
She continued the vehicle starts electronically and the remote was in her jacket pocket. She stated that when the man jumped in the driver’s seat, two other perpetrators jumped in the passenger side. She then had to start the vehicle for them.
When they tried to shove me into the back seat, I ran away. Then they were gone with the vehicle,” she stated.
She added that she contacted her husband and her children asked for help from the school. They then put the vehicle on numerous community groups and the vehicle was later recovered.
She concluded, “I just want to say thank you to all the members involved for their wonderful work. The two officers who waited at the car, you are my heroes, you made things so much better.”
