Police confirm CIT bombing to be armed robbery

The police gave an update on the crime scene at Randfontein Station Mall.

The reported cash-in-transit (CIT) bombing at Randfontein Station Mall yesterday, June 9, was in fact an armed robbery, as confirmed by police.

Captain Tintswalo Sibeko stated that they are investigating a case of armed robbery, attempted murder, and car hijacking following the shooting.

Sibeko continued that two CIT security guards were targeted while on their way to fill an ATM with cash.

Six perpetrators opened fire and injured one of the guards. The perpetrators then fled with an unknown amount of cash and hijacked a Suzuki Vitara, which was later recovered in Azaadville.

The injured guard is currently receiving medical treatment.
