Residents urged to reduce water consumption
Rand water has noted with concern that water consumption has increased significantly across its five main systems
Residents within the Rand West City Local Municipality (RWCLM) and its surrounds are urged to use water sparingly to avoid restrictions to water supply.
This was communicated through a statement issued by Rand Water’s General Manager of Operations, Simon Xaba.

According to the statement, Rand Water is concerned by the significant increase in water consumption across the five main systems of Eikenhof, Palmiet, Mapleton, VVS and Zwartkopjes.
“Rand Water has noted with concern that water consumption has increased significantly across all five main systems. This increase in consumption is putting severe strain on the Rand Water bulk distribution network.
If the reservoir levels drop to risk levels, this will necessitate Rand Water to invoke its emergency protocol by implementing restrictions on critical meters in order to avoid total supply failure of the systems.
“In the eventuality that we invoke the emergency protocol, this would result in intermittent water supply interruptions to communities,” said Xaba who urged consumers to use water only for basic essentials to prevent the implementation of restrictions.
