Bad news regarding water supply affecting Rand West City

Mogale and Rand West reservoirs may dry up after electrical fault at Rand Water booster station.

Rand Water’s Zuikerbosch water treatment plant had a power failure recently and because of this the Mogale City and Rand West City reservoirs may become depleted.

A statement from the Mogale City Local Municipality’s water and sanitation services said the power failure happened on Wednesday, March 8, and affected engine room 4 which supplies all booster stations.

This incident has reduced all Booster Stations pumping causing lower reservoir levels, with our local areas of West Village, Kagiso, and Munsieville already experiencing low water pressure,” the statement reads.

The failure was already being investigated on Wednesday by Rand Water and Eskom technicians and once the fault has been found normal service will return.

“Since it’s expected that other areas may also be affected soon, Mogale Water Services is urging communities to use water sparingly. Water tankers will be made available where areas are affected.”

MCLM has apologised for the inconvenience.
