No power in some parts of Rand West City

A substation near Delmas in Homelake was out of service due to the recent harsh weather conditions.

Residents in different parts of town were without electricity due to a substation near Delmas in Homelake which was out of service.

This was confirmed by Rand West City Local Municipality spokesperson Phillip Montshiwa who said this is due to harsh weather conditions.

“Some overhead lines got damaged. We detected and repaired two faults on Monday night [December 11] but when we attempted to power it up again, it tripped, thus indicating multiple faults that could not be located due to the substation’s location in areas with high activity from illegal miners known as zama zamas.

“We are working with Eskom to locate the fault but we are uncertain about the duration of the downtime. We do apologise for any inconvenience this may cause,” Montshiwa said.

Meanwhile, affected areas include Homelake and parts of the CBD.
