Lake a grave concern for nearby residents
A resident shares the many struggles caused by a lake near their property.
Many would agree that living near a lake is considered serene, however, Koos van Niekerk, who does live near a lake, considers it a headache.

Van Niekerk explained that the issues caused by the unkept area around the lake contribute to crime.
“It is overgrown and dirty, with rubbish piling up,” Van Niekerk said.
He detailed that one resident living on his property was robbed twice. The first time, both her phone and bicycle were stolen, and then her phone was stolen a second time. He added that there was also a robbery at the house across the road from them. In all these incidents, the perpetrators ran into the bushes surrounding the lake, he added.
Furthermore, Van Niekerk stated that there are also people living in the bushes and expressed his concern for the number of elderly residents living in the area.
It is getting to be too much now. We don’t feel safe,” he said.
Both the police and municipality were approached for comment, however, none was received at the time of print. Their feedback will be published once received.
