Fire in Randgate: ‘Rubbish was on fire, not a house’

Randfontein Fire and Rescue Services squash rumours that a house in Randgate caught fire.

The Randfontein Fire and Rescue Services was called out to Van Deventer Street in Randgate on Wednesday evening, July 27 because of fears that a house was on fire.

Regional Commander of the Randfontein Fire and Rescue Services Bennie Mohlabeng, however, confirmed to theĀ Herald that rubbish was burning in a yard, not a house.

The call we received was for an open space between houses. We arrived on scene at approximately 19:45 and found rubbish in a yard on fire. Although the flames were posing a danger to the house nearby, fortunately nothing sinister happened.”

The fire was extinguished at approximately 20:00, Mohlabeng said.
