Boyfriend convicted to 10 years for arson, attempted murder

The complainant had an argument with her boyfriend who then assaulted her on her left leg by kicking her and he also bit her on the neck.

The Randfontein Police has managed to successfully secure a conviction in a domestic violence case.

Molaudi Nyama was convicted and slapped with a 10 years direct imprisonment sentence in the Randfontein Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, October 27 for arson and the attempted murder of his girlfriend.

Randfontein Police spokesperson Sergeant Carmen Hendricks explained that at about 20:00 on April 23 this year, the complainant had an argument with her boyfriend who then assaulted her on her left leg by kicking her. He also bit her on the back.

“She then managed to run off to her neighbours house where she proceeded to hide away from the boyfriend. It was during this time that he set her place of residence in Homelake on fire,” said Hendricks.

Nyama was also found unfit to possess a firearm.

Meanwhile, Randfontein Police Station Commander Brigadier Manamela commented that the law will always prevail when it comes to gender based violence cases.
