Over 200 blankets donated to needy kids

The women at the Midpark Nederduitse Hervormde Church handmade more than 200 blankets for learners who come from a disadvantaged background.

Scores of disadvantaged learners from Laerskool Rapportryer and those from Laerskool Randfontein will have a warm winter this year after a donation of more than 200 blankets.

This was through the Midpark Nederduitse Hervormde Church’s blanket drive that was held at their premises in Helikon Park on June 4.

Speaking to the Randfontein Herald in an interview, a member of the church Johannet Huyser said the blanket drive will make a difference.

We wanted to make sure that every child on the feeding scheme at the two schools did not just receive food to eat but get a nice, warm blanket to go with it.

“The project was initiated by Lynn Botha who is a member of our church. We all supported the idea.

Dr Johan Bester who is the Minister at the Midpark Nederduitse Hervormde Church, together with Yolanda Olivier from Laerskool Rapportryer. They were in happy spirits about the blanket drive.

“The church bought the material for blankets and also received donations from community members which also helped.

All the women in our church made the blankets and it took us two months to finish. We could not be more proud of the work we’ve all done,” said Johannet, who added that the blankets were handmade with love.

Johannet concluded in saying that the song Bring Die Hoop Weer Terug by artist Jo Black was the inspiration behind the project.

Magda Graaf from Laerskool Randfontein together with Dr Johan Bester who is the Minister at the Midpark Nederduitse Hervormde Church. They too were happy with the outcome of the blanket drive.
