Break-ins continue to rise across town

A local security company recorded a total of four incidents and one of them included a suspected farm attack.

It was a busy week again as a string of criminal incidents occurred in different parts of Randfontein between August 1 and August 4.

This was evident in Mapogo A Mathamaga’s latest crime stats – which highlight different kinds of crimes during the period in question.

The security company’s operations manager, Danie Vermeulen said on August 1, they responded to an incident of attempted break-in and theft in Tarentaal Street in Helikon Park where perpetrators gained entry by cutting an electric fence and jumping over the perimeter fence.

They then went on to force open the security door at the premises but could not gain entrance. They moved on to steal the gate motor and fled from the scene.

In a separate incident that occurred on August 2, a perpetrator gained entry into business premises on Bragg Street in Aureus and was spotted by the owner of the business.

“The owner of the business spotted the perpetrator in question and immediately contacted us. We then dispatched armed reaction officers to the scene and upon arrival, the officers went into the building and noticed the perpetrator hiding behind a vehicle. He was swiftly arrested and handed over to the police,” said Vermeulen.

He added that another incident of attempted break-in and theft occurred on Kiewiet Street in Helikon Park on August 2. Perpetrators gained entry by cutting an electric fence and jumping over the perimeter fence.

The perpetrators then proceeded to try and steal a gate motor but failed. They went on to force open a window leading into the house but could not gain entry.

These are the criminal incidents responded to and include another incident of murder and attempted murder at an agricultural holdings farm in Randridge on August 3.

A man was shot and killed and his wife was injured during a suspected farm attack. The incident occurred in front of their two children who managed to get away unharmed.
