Manhunt launched for Toekies pastor’s killers

Pastor Dwayne Gordon was preaching when a group of gunmen entered the church and opened fire. They then robbed congregants of their belongings.

Police have launched a manhunt for six men wanted in connection with the shooting and killing of pastor Dwayne Gordon from Toekomsrus.

Police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi confirmed the incident which occurred on October 6 at a church in Newlands where Gordon was preaching.

News of this has made national headlines after a live stream of the shooting was widely shared on social media.

“It is reported that a group of about six unknown men accosted a congregation in church at Newlands. They opened fire and three people were injured. One of the victims, identified as a pastor, succumbed to his injuries. Furthermore, the gunmen robbed congregants of their cellphones as well as other belongings before they fled the scene,” said Nevhuhulwi.

She added that a case of murder and two counts of attempted murder have been opened for further investigation.

“The community is urged to work together with the police in dealing with crime in that area by reporting criminal activities and coming forth with any information that can assist with the investigations on the Crime Stop Line at 08600 10111 or anonymously give tip-offs on MySapsApp which can be downloaded on any smartphone. All information received will be treated with strictest confidence,” said Nevhuhulwi.

Meanwhile, the provincial commissioner of police in Gauteng, Lieutenant General Elias Mawela has condemned the barbaric act in the strongest possible terms.
