Calling all Toekies residents to join the fight against drugs

Various organisations have come together in a joint effort to spread awareness about drug and substance abuse.

Toekomsrus hosted the Toekomsrus for Jesus Outreach where multiple organisations spoke about substance abuse awareness.

On May 11, the Freedom Recovery Centre, Parents Against Drug Abuse, Serenity Life Institute and Sankofa Centre hosted the outreach. The event started at noon where healing, deliverance and salvation took place. The various organisations prayed on the streets and played gospel music.

One of the topics of the day included ‘Say no to drugs’.

Recovering addicts Jermaine Minnaar, Rafik Fortune, Napo Tapelo, Mishka Padyachey and Sheldon George attended the event.

The Freedom Recovery Centre is an NPO founded in 2022. The organisation started support groups and a treatment centre to assist those struggling with substance abuse. Founder Sylvester Sauls gave thanks to those who supported their organisation.

The Serenity Life Institute was established in 2020. The organisation has been assisting individuals with substance abuse issues in and around Toekomsrus. The organisation also makes it a priority to create awareness about substance abuse. According to founder Hellenic van der Merwe, they detox addicts by using ear acupuncture and infrared sauna therapy.
