Local NPO asks the community to reach out

With the NPO having only started recently they need the community's involvement to grow and expand their reach.

People Helping People, an NPO focused on helping the homeless, is asking the community to reach out and help them make a difference.

“We want to uplift the community by having a common goal of helping each other. Remembering that we are together in this life, although we live individual lives,” said McKenzie Tselaekae, founder of the NPO.

Currently, they are a team of two, but they are hoping members of the community will join in so they can cover more ground.

He continued that the inspiration for his venture came from seeing the number of homeless people struggling with no place to go for help.

“We take so many things for granted and there are people out there who do not know when they are going to eat or where they are going to sleep. I put myself in their shoes and realised how that could’ve been me.

“These people on the streets are people I know, people I grew up with, people I went to school with, some are even close friends. So all of this is close to my heart and there’s only so much that I can do alone, I need more help so that I can help more.”

He explained he only started the NPO in May, however, before this he used to reach out to people whenever he saw the need.

The donations they need include anything the community can help with including clothes, canned food, blankets, money and volunteers. He noted they do not have specific areas they reach out to, but any area with a need.

Any person who wants to donate can contact McKenzie on 067 869 3337 or 069 596 5505.
