Fire at cooking oil factory under investigation
The fire department confirms no injuries were reported during a blaze that occurred at a cooking oil factory recently.
The cause of a massive fire at a cooking oil factory along Homestead Avenue in Randfontein on June 29 remains under investigation.
According to Rand West Emergency Services Fire Chief Benny Mohlabeng, they received an emergency call shortly after 01:00 that Saturday morning.

“We rushed to the scene and managed to extinguish the blaze just after 08:00. The fire occurred at the back of the factory where they package oil. We then had to contain the fire to prevent it from spreading to where the oil was manufactured. No injuries were reported,” he said.

Mohlabeng added that Fire Risk Management was then called to the scene to determine the exact cause of the fire.
“The matter is still being investigated,” he concluded.
