Fundraiser to encourage reading among kids

Women's Day fundraiser held to get kids to fall in love with books again.

The Toekomsrus community came together at the community hall on National Women’s Day for a Let’s Sip and Spill Some Tea fundraiser.

Nkateko Mabusela, the organiser for the event, explained the event was a fundraising initiative for the Avid Readers Programme.

Gomolemo Rautao from Momo’s Kitchen did the catering for the event.

“The programme started this year and the aim is to encourage children to read. We want children to fall in love with books again,” said Nkateko.

Ohamokuhle Mpingane, Likhwezilomso Nakani and Sibusisiwo Mathe.

On the day, a few children read poems to the guests while the attendees played games and held a quiz.

“The important thing however was to have fun as women and children,” she said.

According to Nkateko, they are still in need of materials including bean bags and word games.
