Child rushed to hospital after wall collapses during tornado

It was confirmed, a tornado passed through Mohlakeng and Toekomsrus this afternoon.

A tornado blew through Toekomsrus and Mohlakeng this afternoon, November 27 and caused significant damage to properties in the area, resulting in one child being rushed to hospital.

Henry Boyce, chairperson of the Rand West Neighbourhood Watch, confirmed the tornado passed through Mohlakeng and then Toekomsrus.

Resident and pastor André Roberts stated the tornado originated from Greenfields Estate and then passed through Umphakati Mall before heading to Toekomsrus.

He mentioned a wall fell on a child who was immediately rushed to hospital. He added over 200 houses were wrecked along with trees, gates and walls which collapsed.

“It’s really a disaster. It is the first time we have had something like this. It’s bad,” said Roberts.
