The miraculous recovery of Teddy the street dog
After being castrated and his ears cut off, Teddy was left on the side of the road to die, however, one woman was determined to give him a second chance at life.
Teddy was found in a grisly condition, however, he now lives the peaceful life he longed for after Naomi de Beer rescued him off the streets.

“My daughter and I were on our way into town on a Sunday morning when she spotted what looked like a cat. As we approached the figure, we noticed it was a dog that looked like a cat because it was arching its back.
“When we got closer to him, tears started streaming down my face because the dog was just skin and bones. I could see he was using his last bit of strength to try and get away from us. When I finally picked him up, it was as if he went limp and gave up fighting,” Naomi explained.
After Naomi rushed Teddy to a local veterinarian hospital, she asked the vet what his chances of survival were. The doctor responded that he had a five percent chance of living, if they were lucky.
I just could not refuse his treatment. Five percent was enough of a chance, and there was a reason this dog crossed our path. I asked the vet to please give Teddy a chance,” she expressed.
While Teddy was examined, they noticed deep cuts around his testicular area. It was noted that Teddy most likely suffered castration by scissors. His ears were also cut off, and he was malnourished.
Naomi was concerned that Teddy might not make it through the night; however, the next day, when she visited the vet, she received the news that he miraculously survived. The vet was able to fix Teddy’s botched castration, whereafter he sent him home to recuperate.
And so, Teddy’s road to recovery began.
“His short ears reminded me of a teddy bear, and that is why I had to name him Teddy. It fit him so perfectly.
“At the start of his journey, he was very scared and he struggled to trust us. But with much-needed love and attention, Teddy blossomed and grew a beautiful personality. One day, Teddy just started speaking. Even though I could not understand what he was saying, I knew he was telling me about everything that had happened to him. I knew in that moment that I could never let him go,” Naomi said.
She added that Teddy became a mascot in town because wherever she went, people would ask her what happened to the dog.
People are always so surprised that Teddy is such a friendly dog, even after everything that happened to him.
