Children in Dan Tloome stayed active, engaged and inspired during the recent school holidays thanks to a winter programme organised by community member Nokuthula Mkhatshwa.

Held during the winter break, the initiative provided a safe and supportive environment where children could take part in a range of fun and educational activities.

The programme aimed to keep young people positively engaged during the holidays while promoting creativity, learning and social interaction.

According to Nokuthula, the initiative was created to give children something meaningful to look forward to during the school break.

“We wanted to create a space where kids can come together, learn new things and enjoy themselves in a safe environment,” she said.

Activities included games, group exercises and interactive sessions designed to build participants’ confidence and encourage teamwork. Children were also given opportunities to express themselves, develop new skills and form friendships with their peers.

Nokuthula thanked everyone who contributed to the programme’s success and said she hopes to expand the initiative and host similar events in future.

“I would like to thank all the stakeholders who actively participated in the programme, as well as the teachers who helped with the day-to-day activities for the children. I would also like to thank the parents for allowing their children to attend the programme,” she said.

The Dan Tloome winter programme highlighted the positive impact community-driven initiatives can have in providing children with safe, enriching spaces during the school holidays.
