Man alleges bar assault left him with life-changing injuries
Police are investigating an assault GBH case after a man was left with serious injuries following an incident at a bar in Greenhills.
A man says he was left with life-changing injuries after allegedly being assaulted at a Greenhills bar on Saturday, June 13.
Christiaan James alleges that he was attacked by a man known to him and several other men after visiting the bar to relax.
“I was just there to relax. Next thing, I’m being attacked,” he says.
According to James, the alleged assault left him with severe injuries. Medical reports indicate that he sustained two fractures to his leg during the incident.
A case of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm (GBH) was subsequently opened at the Randfontein Police Station. West Rand Flying Squad spokesperson Karen du Plessis confirms that the matter is under investigation and that no arrests have been made.
James says the injuries have had a profound impact on his daily life and that he may never again be able to enjoy activities he once loved, including riding motorbikes, quad biking and playing rugby with his son.
“My life will never be the same,” he says. “Simple things I used to take for granted are no longer possible.”
He also claims the incident has placed him under significant financial strain. Although his medical aid covered part of his treatment, he says he has been left with medical expenses exceeding R40 000 and is expected to undergo further surgery.
Police investigations into the alleged assault are continuing.
