Home Affairs on Wheels assists Greenhills residents with Smart IDs
First-time applicants and pensioners turn out in numbers for mobile Smart ID services in Greenhills.
The Department of Home Affairs brought its Home Affairs on Wheels service to Greenhills on Tuesday, September 15, assisting residents with various Smart ID card services.
Among those who made use of the service were Aubrey Moore and Lesedi Semenyane, who applied for their Smart ID cards for the first time.

Older residents, including Xander Smith and Tara Wessels, also attended the outreach but said they expected the process to be quicker. The pair reported waiting in the queue for several hours before staff assisted them.

The delay was due to the mobile vehicles not having an independent power supply, resulting in Councillor Tewie Botha requesting Pick n Pay management to supply the vehicles with electricity.

Botha has since announced that a second mobile service will take place on Monday, September 28, to service more residents in the area.

Despite the delays, community members continued to use the mobile service, which brought Home Affairs closer to the area.
