Prayers and unity shine bright in Mohlakeng’s fight against crime and hardship
Mohlakeng residents turn to collective prayer and unity as the community faces troubling social challenges.
Mohlakeng community members came together at the Mohlakeng Ramosa Community Hall recently for the Pray For Mohlakeng Candle Light Prayer Service, organised by the Mocha Pele Progressive Movement and Mohlakeng Youth In Christ.
“We saw the need to call the community to this gathering because of various challenges – physical, spiritual, and psychological – that have affected us as residents. In difficult times like these, we must seek divine intervention,” explained Befedile Shenxane, a community activist from Mocha Pele.
The event was originally planned for the Four Square Taxi Rank, but thanks to the Rand West City Local Municipality, the hall was provided as the venue. Shenxane also expressed gratitude for the presence of the mayor and municipal staff.
Kagiso Dimema from Mohlakeng Youth In Christ added, “We are not promoting any political ideology or religious bias. We are simply concerned young people coming together to pray and intercede for issues affecting us as Christians and as a community.”
The prayer service was prompted by recent incidents in the community, including gangsterism, bullying, suicides, and substance abuse – particularly among learners from local high schools.
“I am humbled and grateful that our community could unite and call on God for help, acknowledging our shortcomings. I thank God for allowing us to gather like this, as He is willing to heal our land and has not forgotten us,” said Pastor Chris Tshepe.
Mayor William Matsheke attended in his personal capacity.
“I didn’t come as a leader or by formal invitation, but as a concerned resident after seeing the event on social media. Don’t look to government for all solutions – look to God to guide us through these challenges,” he said.
