Former Blue bulls and Springbok rugby player, Pedrie Wannenburg dies in horrific accident
Pedrie Wannenburg was driving with his family when he reportedly got caught up in a high-speed chase of a teenager who was evading the police.
Former Blue bulls and Springbok rugby player Pedrie Wanneburg died in a car crash in Houston, USA on Friday.
It is believed the 41-year-old sportsman was driving with his family when his vehicle got hit by a car driven by a teenager who was evading the police during a high-speed chase.
According to US-based website Click2housten Wannenburg was pronounced dead in hospital.
His injured 8-year-old son had to be airlifted to hospital in a critical condition.
His wife and daughter are said to be unharmed.
Many in the sporting fraternity have expressed shock over the death, while others have sent condolences to his family.
Wannenburg was based in the US and coached for Austin Elite Rugby in North American Major League Rugby.
He previously represented the South African Blue Bulls in the southern hemisphere Super 14 competition and was the first player to play 99 consecutive games and 100 games for the Bulls.
In 2002, Wannenburg made his first test appearance for the Springboks against France.
