Wag-A-Walk campaign is a success
Centurion residents flocked to the Jan Smuts House to join the Wag-a-Walk campaign.
The community of Centurion came out in numbers to join and support the Wag- A-Walk campaign on Saturday morning at Smuts House in Irene.
This is an initiative by the SPCA Tshwane, aimed at raising money for the organisation to keep it going. Even people without dogs came to support the event. There were two routes, a one-and-half km and a 5km walk.
Speaking to the public relations officer of SPCA, Korky Levanon, the organisation was experiencing some financial setbacks and needed the support of the community to continue the mission and vision of the organisation. She said an estimated amount of over R10 000 was raised and thanked all the participants as this would help animals that are in need.
She further said dog food were also donated and this will keep the needy animals well fed and maintained. “We are grateful for the main sponsor Woolworth’s through the My School programme.”
One of the participants, Alicia Geyer, said her dog walked 5km and she was glad that she made it.
Sean James said his dog also participated in this initiative. Having a passion for caring for animals, Sean Senekal with his wife Tanya and little Roux, could not be left behind even on a chilly morning.
