Police in Soshanguve, Mabopane and Ga-Rankuwa have stepped up their search for two men who blew up a drop-in safe at a Total filling station in Mabopane near Morula Sun Casino in Mabopane.
Three heavily-armed men held up a security guard at the filling station and blew up the safe, using a condom containing a liquid explosive.
They made off in a white BMW car with an undisclosed amount of money towards Soshanguve’s Block M area.
Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Matthews Nkoadi said police were alerted and chased the vehicle.
“The suspects abandoned the white BMW that we suspect was stolen somewhere. They ran in all directions, but we caught one of them.”
An R5 rifle, an Uzzi semi-automatic gun and black balaclava were seized. Nkoadi appealed to residents to assist with information that could lead to the arrest of the two men still at large.
In another crime, police in Akasia have launched a manhunt after an advocate from Karen Park, Tshepiso Motsohoene (41), was shot and killed in his home in the north of Pretoria on Wednesday morning.
“We are following various leads so that we can swiftly arrest the suspects,” Nkoadi said.
Motsohoene’s body was found in the living room of his house shortly after he was killed.
“Neighbours phoned the police after they heard gun shots. He was shot once in his stomach and died on the scene.”
Nkoadi said the killer only took a cellphone. Anyone with information on the matter could call the police crime stop number 0860-10111 or sms Crime Line 32211.
