Police hard at work

Laudium police arrested 150 people in a weekend operation to reduce crime in the area.

A total of 150 people were arrested over the weekend in Laudium for various crimes, police said. According to police spokesperson, Captain Reed Steynberg, the crimes included drunk driving, possession of suspected stolen goods and possession of dagga.

“The weekend operation is proving that police visibility in the Laudium area can really reduce crime and other criminal activities,” said Steynberg. She said such operations would be conducted randomly to decrease crime in the area. “These operations help restore the public’s faith in the police and show that we are doing something to tackle crime in the Laudium area.”

She said those arrested over the weekend would appear in the Atteridgeville Magistrate’s Court. “We are trying to minimise the level of crime in Laudium, especially leading up to the festive season. We appeal to residents to report any illegal activities in the area.”

She said police would be clamping down on drunk driving and illegal immigrants, as well as any other illegal activities in the area. Steynberg urged local crime prevention forums to work with the police to help fight crime.
