Man dies in hospital after robbers shot him
Mark de Villiers (43) who was shot by an armed robbers during a home invasion, died on Sunday.
A man shot by robbers in his Hestiapark-house in September died on Sunday.
Mark de Villiers (43) was shot in the groin while trying to flee after his house was attacked by several armed men.
He was taken to the George Makhari hospital in Ga-Rankuwa shortly after the incident, where he was treated until his death.
His fiancé, Jackie Pretorius, who escaped from the crime scene, said the hospital called around 2.00 on Sunday morning to say De Villiers’s condition had deteriorated. Pretorius said that she rushed to the hospital to find him in a weakened state.
De Villiers had undergone surgery on 29 September to replace his urine pipes and stem internal bleeding. De Villiers never woke up after the operation and did not show any signs of recovery.
Pretorius said De Villiers had eight heart attacks between 2.00 and 11.00. By 11.00, he was declared brain dead and a decision was taken to stop the machines that kept him alive. The doctor told Pretorius that De Villiers also had multiple organ failure.
Pretorius said she was devastated by the death of her fiancé.
“The worst part is that he was shot for a flat screen television. They could have just taken the television and everything else I own. I don’t care about earthly possessions, all I want is the love of my life.”
De Villiers left behind his fiancé and her three daughters, Gina, Patricia and Jackie Pretorius as well as two sons, Morné (21) and Marcelle (19). The funeral will be on Friday in the Apostolic Faith Mission church in Rayton.
Pretorius said De Villiers was the breadwinner and she and her three daughters were in financial trouble. Her telephone number is 079-016-9802.
