Two arrested in Elardus Park operation

The Lyttleton police, Sector 4 CPF and Bull Security teamed up for an anti-crime operation in Elardus Park on Saturday.

An operation to curb crime in Elardus Park by removing illegal immigrants and other offenders from the street saw the Lyttelton police, Lyttleton Sector 4 Community Policing Forum (LS4 CPF) and Bull Security joining forces on Saturday.

The police and volunteers focused on illegal drug and alcohol trade on street corners, said Bull Security spokesperson French Jooste.

“We searched points where we have encountered problems in the past, namely the corner of Piering Road and Boeing Street and the corner of Piering and Delmas roads. We also searched the dump site in Delmas Road to look for illegal immigrants and stolen goods.”

Jooste said a man found in possession of dagga was arrested in Piering Road.

Another man on the corner of Piering and Delmas roads started running when he saw officers. He was caught across the road from the Villa Mall.

Further investigation revealed the man was an illegal immigrant. He was arrested on the scene.

Jooste urged residents of Elardus Park to be vigilant in the run-up to the festive season.
