Four female robbers wanted

Police are looking for four women who robbed a house in Mountain View on Monday and another on Tuesday afternoon.

Four female robbers accused of taking valuables from a house in Mountain View have turned out to be the same women who robbed an Erasmia home on Monday.

Police are still searching for the women who were driving a silver sedan.

There was a complaint that the four women pretended to be interested in a house for sale in Mountain View and then stole valuables while moving through the property.

“The four women asked the homeowner’s son to have a look at the interior of the house. He let them in and when one of the women asked to have a look at one of the bedrooms the young man escorted her, while the other three helped themselves to valuables,” Hercules community policing forum (CPF) Sector 1 chairperson, André Kruger said.

The young man confirmed to police on Wednesday morning the women they were searching for after a robbery at a house in Erasmia on Monday were indeed the same ones who were in their Mountain View home on Tuesday.

Kruger said only after the women had left did the young man noticed that jewellery, phones, a play station and other valuables were missing.

“The young man said the women were with a male but he had stayed in the vehicle – a silver sedan.”

Before the women robbed the house in Mountain View they were at a smallholding in Hercules Sector 4 where they pretended to be looking for a wedding venue, Kruger said this week.

The women were trying to get information from an elderly woman, and wanted to know whether she was living on her own.

“They asked if they could hire her lapa and if she baked cakes for weddings. The woman replied in the negative on both questions. They then asked her what time her husband would be home,” Kruger said.

He said the Hercules resident confirmed the women were driving a silver sedan, with a man accompanying them.

He said houses for sale were popular targets for such robbers and other criminals, and this was confirmed by other similar incidents in the area. Most criminals were aware that at these properties domestic workers would probably be home alone during the day.

“The burglars would ask the domestic worker to see the house inside. One of them would distract the worker while the others steal valuables.”

Kruger warned residents to be careful when their houses were for sale and not to let large groups of people in for viewing. Homeowners should make sure their domestic workers were alert.

The Suiderberg, Mountain View and Lady Selbourne area is believed to have a serious problem with daytime home burglaries and robberies. Police are searching for a white Mazda Midge that has been seen roaming the streets. Residents were encouraged to call the police at any time should they notice suspicious activities.

Anyone with information that could lead to the arrests of the four female robbers can call the Hercules police Sector 1 commander, Warrant officer Harold Zinserling on 082-372-0223.

Police comment could not be obtained immediately.
