Kitten doing well after attack

Kitten that was attacked with an axe in Dorandia is recovering well.

A kitten that was almost chopped into pieces recently in Dorandia is making excellent progress.

The seven week old kitten was thrown into a bucket by a man who hacked at the animal with an axe. The kitten lost his right front leg and a paw in the attack.

This happened just outside the gate of an animal shelter, One Stop Animal Rescue, and owner Mandie Luther came to the rescue of the cat.

Luther said she rushed out when she heard the barking of her dogs and the howling of a kitten in pain.

She grabbed the bucket with the helpless kitten from the man and rushed the animal to a nearby veterinarian who performed an emergency operation.

Luther said the little kitten’s wound had healed, the stitches had been removed and he was happily hopping around on three legs. She had no intention of giving the little warrior away.

The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) had gone back to the area where the kitten was found to round up other stray cats who were wondering around, said spokesman Rick Allen.

“We did this to prevent another dreadful incident.”

The SPCA was still investigating the attack on the kitten and trying to trace possible witnesses.
