Henning murder case postponed

The Chanelle Henning murder case has been postponed until next year.

The man accused of orchestrating the murder of his estranged wife Chanelle Henning was back in die Pretoria District Court on Thursday.

Nico Henning’s defence team asked for the matter to be postponed to 15 January, saying it was not ready to proceed. The request was granted.

Prosecuter Gerrie Nel did not oppose a postponement.

The 26-year-old-mother was gunned down in November 2011 after she dropped her child off at a crèche in Faerie Glen.

Earlier, it was reported that the matter would be transferred to the High Court in Pretoria, with 8 July as the provisional date for the trial to begin.

Andre Gouws, a friend of the accused, and former Nigerian athlete Ambrose Monye have both been sentenced to life in prison for the murder.

Two other men, Gerhardus “Doepie” du Plessis and Willem “Pike” Pieterse, are serving 18-year prison terms after confessing to their roles in the killing.
