Man caught after staging robbery

Man caught for insurance fraud after staging the robbery of his own laptop.

A man staged the robbery of his own laptop at the Kolonnade Retail Park in Montana on Thursday night to defraud an insurance company.

He was arrested after his girlfriend gave him away to Sinoville police.

The man apparently waited until all the security guards at the shopping centre had gone off duty before he tried to pull the stunt, said the mall’s security chief, who asked not be named.

After the guards had left, the man broke his own car window and then walked into the Pick and Pay, reporting that his laptop was stolen from his car seat through the broken window.

The man was advised to report the matter to the Sinoville police. He did so, accompanied by his girlfriend. At the police station he as well as his girlfriend were questioned.

She caved in and confessed that her boyfriend had staged the robbery in order to commit insurance fraud. She also revealed that he had never possessed a laptop.

Sinoville police spokesperson Mirna von Benecke said the man would soon appear in court on charges of insurance fraud.
