Police still searching for four women after robberies
Police still searching for four women, who robbed a house in Mountain view and another in Erasmia last week.
A police hunt is still on for four women who robbed two houses in Mountain View and Erasmia last week, spokesperson Captain Bonginkosi Msimango said on Monday.
“We are calling on the community to help us with information that will lead to the arrest of the four women. Residents should also be on the alert this time of the year as there will be many people coming with all kind of strategies to gain entry to houses.”
Msimango said the area experienced similar crimes last year in the run-up to the festive season.
It was believed that the four women walked into houses for sale in Mountain View, pretending to be interested buyers and then stole valuables.
Hercules Community Policing Forum (CPF) Sector 1 chairperson, André Kruger said the women appeared to be seasoned operators.
“They asked the home owner’s son if they could have a look inside. He opened up for them and one of the women asked to see a bedroom. The young man escorted her while the other three took what they could.”
Kruger said the son only noticed later that jewellery, phones, a play station and other valuables were missing. He confirmed to the police last week that the women who robbed a house in Erasmia were the same ones he encountered.
Police said the women were driving a silver sedan, believed to be a Toyota Yaris. A man was seen in their company.
Msimango said residents should be cautious of people coming to their houses asking to use the toilet or wanting to view the houses on sale because this could just be a scam to rob people.
“These people have many strategies. They come to people with all sorts of stories to try and get information or gain entry to their houses and rob them. We are asking people to be careful,” said Msimango.
