Pretoria commuters spared from taxi strike

Pretoria commuters spared from the inconvenience of a taxi strike as it seems to be centralised to Johannesburg and connecting areas.

Pretoria commuters have been spared the inconvenience of a taxi strike that brought Johannesburg traffic to a standstill on Monday morning.

According to reports, problem areas include Soweto, Alexandra and some areas in northern Johannesburg.

Obed Sibasa, spokesperson for the Gauteng traffic department, was quoted as saying it was not immediately clear why taxi drivers were striking.

He warned commuters to brace themselves for severe delays.

Metro police spokesperson Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba said no complaints had been received about disruptions of taxi services in Pretoria.

“It’s business as usual, ” he said.
