Three armed vehicle thieves who went on a stealing spree in Sandton and sought to do the same north of Pretoria were nabbed on Thursday night.
The three men, allegedly in possession on unlicensed firearms, were staking out the parking area at the Kolonnade Retail Park when security guards noticed them.
The head of security of Fidelity Security at the centre, who asked not to be named, said the three were waiting in two cars, parked outside the Virgin Active gym.
The guards alerted police, who responded swiftly. The three men were arrested on the spot after they were identified as the culprits being sought for a robbery in Sandton earlier in the day.
The three had apparently been on the run and police had been keeping track of their stolen cars throughout the day thanks to tracking devices in the vehicles.
Sinoville police spokesperson Mirna von Benecke said the men were arrested for being in possession of stolen goods and unlicensed firearms.
