Patchman dies in hail of bullets

Local businessman dies in a hail of bullets.

The notorious Madumetja Oscar ‘Patchman’ Letswalo of Mamelodi West was shot dead in the early hours of Monday.

He was about to leave his pub when he was confronted by an unknown attacker. The 43-year-old Patchman was shot dead in his silver Porsche sedan.

Police spokesperson Constable Sam Shibambo said: “The victim was wounded in the upper body and pronounced dead on the scene. Shortly after the shooting, the suspect was seen leaving the scene in a silver grey Volkswagen Polo Vivo which had been idling nearby. The escape vehicle had no registration numbers.”

The motive for the killing was not immediately clear and no arrests had been made.

Members of the Letswalo family said they would issue a statement later

The notorious Oscar Patchman hit the headlines about 10 years ago in connection with the hijacking of at least 25 vehicles in and around Pretoria. He allegedly falsified registration documents and passed the cars on to an unsuspecting car dealership in the Eastern Cape, which then sold them to innocent clients.

These transactions were said to have netted Letswalo with about R7 million.

Shibambo asked for anyone with information to come forward or to call the police on 08600-10111.
