Phoney police officers robbing citizens

Two men posing as police officers rob people in Centurion.

Two men posing as police officers are robbing people in Centurion, the Lyttelton Sector 7 (LS7) community police forum (CPF) and Lyttelton police warned on Monday.

They drove around in an older brown Hyundai Sonata, registration DRB 473 GP, dressed as police officers. The pair stopped people, often targeting foreign nationals, searched them, and then stole their possessions.

The latest crime of this nature was on Sunday (16 November) at the Gerhard Street bridge next to the Protea Hotel. According to the LS7 CPF, the men had been operating around Pretoria the past three months.

Lyttelton CPF urged anyone with information on them to come forward. “We are asking that anyone with information to help us catch these men. The public could call us or the police,” said Chris Evans, head of the Sector 7 CPF.

The LS7 CPF can be reached on 086-157-1911 and the Lyttelton police on 012-644-8600.
