Restaurant defrauded of R15 000

A well–known restaurant in Daspoort was allegedly defrauded of R15 000 on Saturday.

Police are searching for a Zimbabwean national, who they believe could help with information on fraud involving R15 000 at his employer’s business.

Van der Stel Restaurant owner Dawie du Toit claimed R15 000 was stolen while Progress Toruvanda was working at the restaurant’s game section on Saturday.

“He was in charge of the float money and did the payouts that day.”

Du Toit offered a reward of R5 000 for information on Toruvanda’s whereabouts.

“He has been working for me for seven months. On Saturday, he was working at the gaming side of the business. He walked out of the shop and never returned,” du Toit said.

He said 20 minutes later, Toruvanda was nowhere to be found. His phone was also off. Du Toit said the worker had been a trustworthy and hardworking employee.

Hercules police spokesperson Colonel Jokhina Makhumisane said a charge had been laid and police were investigating.

Anyone with information call the Hercules Police station on 012-377-4100 or Dawie du Toit on 082-576-2355.
