More than 100 arrested over weekend

Police in the Mamelodi cluster (Eersterust, Kameeldrift, Mamelodi East, Silverton and Sinoville police stations) arrested over 100 people for various crimes over the weekend, police said.

Police spokesperson, Constable Sam Shibambo, said a total of 115 people were arrested during the operation that started on Friday evening and ended on Saturday evening.

“A 34-year-old man was arrested after he was caught with three illegal firearms,” Shibambo said.

“Police received information about the man and upon searching his house found the firearms in his room. He was taken into custody and will appear in court on charges of possession of illegal firearms soon.”

Shibambo added that 51 people, mostly from Mamelodi and Eersterust, were arrested for drug related offences.

Other suspects are detained for crimes ranging from fraud, burglaries and theft.
