Man’s body found in dam
A man’s body was found a week after he was reported missing.
A man’s decomposing body was found in the Roodeplaat dam on Sunday after he went missing about a week ago.
According to a reliable source, the man was dropped off by his friend last week Monday as he wanted to do some fishing. Using a canoe, he apparently dropped illegal nets in the dam to catch fish.
When the man had not returned back home by Tuesday, he was reported missing.
It is believed the man’s canoe capsized in a thunderstorm last week and he drowned.
According to the source, the police K9 Search and Rescue unit and others had been searching for the man since last week. During the search, police found the illegal nets in the dam and removed them, but there was still no sight of the missing man.
“Someone spotted the man on Sunday night just after 19:00 and informed the police,” the source said.
The man’s body was removed early on Monday morning.
Warrant Officer Michael Mbewe, police spokesperson, confirmed the discovery and said the police are still investigating the matter.
