Pistorius birthday ‘party’ to be probed
The department of correctional services said it would investigate allegations that Oscar Pistorius' siblings entered the Kgosi Mampuru prison, bearing gifts and goods on his 28th birthday on Saturday.

Claims of a special birthday party behind bars for convicted Paralympian Oscar Pistorius would be investigated, prison authorities said on Monday.
“The department of correctional services views the allegations in a serious light. They will be investigated and any person found guilty will be dealt with,” said correctional services spokesperson Logan Maistry.
Newspaper reports on Sunday suggested that Kgosi Mampuru prison in Pretoria permitted Pistorius’ siblings, Carl and Aimee, to bring a cake, balloons and a gift bag for the athlete’s 28th birthday.
It is alleged that the Pistorius’ cars were not searched when entering the prison premises and that the siblings used a different entrance to avoid photographers.
Maistry said there was no policy to give Pistorius preferential treatment.
“According to the management of the correctional centre, inmate Oscar Pistorius is not receiving preferential treatment.”
Pistorius has served a month of a five-year prison sentence after he was found guilty of culpable homicide. He killed his model girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp when he shot her through the locked door of a toilet cubicle in his Pretoria home last year.
