A video went viral depicting a 50-year-old woman being assaulted by three police officers.

A video depicting police brutality has gone viral after footage circulated on social media of a 50-year-old woman being assaulted by three policemen in public .

The 21 seconds video shows the woman surrounded by people, with police officers attacking her where she was lying on the ground.

On the video one of the officers is seen steping on her neck and trampling her. The woman is then pulled by her clothes from the ground by another officer who seems to be trying to put her in a police van.

South African Police Service (SAPS) confirmed officers in the footage were from Kraaifontein police station in Cape Town.

One of the officers, Sergeant Irvin James Kallie (45) was suspended shortly after the incident.

“After police approached the victim yesterday to open a criminal case, the case was indeed registered and it’s receiving our priority in terms of pursuing the necessary investigations. The matter will also be handed over to the Independent Police Investigative Directorate for further investigations,” said SAPS on their Facebook page.
