Armed men harass community

Police are searching for four armed men involved in a modus operandi, harassing residents at the plots in the west of Pretoria.

Four men are terrorising smallholdings west of Pretoria with a firearm and a bolt cutter, police said on Wednesday.

“The men use the same method to break into people’s rooms on the plots. They come late at night, fire shots and use the bolt cutter to open the rooms,” said Hercules police spokesperson Captain Bonginkosi Msimango.

Two people were robbed this week alone. In one of the crimes, they approached a house about 00:15 am and fired shots through the door before breaking it down.

“The men demanded money and other valuables. The same men attacked another person on another plot where they used the bolt cutter to cut open the door. They stole cellphones and money and fired three shots,” said Msimango.

He said no one was injured. The men were believed to also be involved in a murder in the area about a week ago.

Police are appealing to the community to come forward with any information.

“We also ask the community to be on the lookout as these men are armed and could harm more people. If people see or hear anything suspicious they should call us.”

The Hercules police station could be reached on 012-377-4100.
