Hijacked truck recovered

A tobacco truck hijacked on Thursday morning was later recovered in the same area.

A British American Tobacco (BAT) delivery truck hijacked in Johan Heyns Drive on Thursday morning has been found with its doors still open and the engine running.

Johnny Badenhorst, spokesperson for Secure24 K9, said he discovered the truck idling in Beyers Street in Rietfontein at 09:45 on Thursday. He believed he had just missed the hijackers.

Two of the delivery truck drivers were later found in Midrand, where they were apparently dropped off by the hijackers, Badenhorst said.

Two get-away vehicles were involved in the hijacking.

Badenhorst said the hijackers were clearly off-loading the delivery truck in Beyers Street when something caused them to flee the scene.

Lieutenant Linda Jerling, spokesperson for the Moot police, confirmed the recovery of the truck.

She said an enquiry into the matter had been registered but no docket had been opened as of yet. The investigation was continuing.
