A body of an eight-year-old boy was found mutilated in Itireleng, Laudium, on Wednesday evening after he went missing the night before, police said.
Spokesperson Constable Tumisang Moloto said the child disappeared on Tuesday night and the community of Itireleng began searching the next morning.
“On Wednesday evening, police followed up the information that led them to a Mosque at Itireleng informal settlement around 20:30. The mutilated body of a boy was found at the back of the Mosque,” he said.
It is believed that his genitals were removed.
The mother was called to the scene and she identified the body as that of her missing child, Moloto said.
Moloto said a 39 year-old man was arrested on Wednesday night after the search.
He would appear on a murder charge in the Atteridgeville Magistrate’s Court.
