Police in Ga-Rankuwa have launched a manhunt for three men, aged between 35 and 40, who apparently raped three women recently.
Spokesperson, Warrant Officer Matthews Nkoadi said the women were walking from Zone 16 to Zone 21 when three men approached them from behind and dragged them to a nearby veld.
“They demanded cellphones and money and then started to rape them,” he said.
According to Nkoadi, the men fled the scene after the incident. The police launched an investigation.
“They each face three counts of rape.”
He also said similar incidents have been reported.
“It is not the first time something like this has been reported. A lot of crimes are frequently committed along that road.”
He urged residents to avoid using short cuts, not walk alone at night and should always walk along main roads.
“Longer routes are usually safer than short cuts.”
Nkoadi urged anyone who might have information that could lead to the arrest of the men to come forward.
“Anyone who might have information or want to report any suspicious activities should call the crime stop number on 0860010111 or SMS the crime line on 32211.”
